This competition involves skiing or snowboarding down a 250 m (820-ft.) vertical drop so as to reach maximum speed and then cross Picalo lake, more than 60 m (197-ft.) long. $5,000 in grants are fairly distributed between athletes (women and men).
6,000 persons come from all over Eastern Canada to watch skiers and snowboarders compete. They are also invited to taste a maple taffy while coordinators propose face painting and other activities to children.
For several years now, some athletes have succeeded in completely crossing the lake. In order to have a winner, extra runs - starting at a lower altitude - are organized until the best athlete reaches the farthest point on Picalo lake.
For 34 years now, the Matapedia population has taken pride in this event.
A new activity is now available: the Aqua-Yak. A skier or a snowboarder and a kayaker team up to cross the Picalo lake. This competition in the form of a relay is a new opportunity to have fun.
Why don't you come and participate? You might be the winner of the 34th Aqua-Neige. Participating or watching the Aqua-Neige is sheer pleasure guaranteed!
